Thank you MIYA Arts for the opportunity to review your products. #notsponsored
MIYA has just started selling in the US via Amazon.com (affiliate link) and I've been really impressed with the great value and quality of their paints. MIYA's customer service is also super fast, when I had a question about the light fast properties of their KIMI gouache they quickly responded to a DM on Instagram. So if there are any product questions follow the link to their Instagram account to reach out.
Paper is good quality 300 gsm; six mini pieces of textured paper are included in a matching card stock envelope. The sheets handled fountain pen ink and swatching card well. Though the water brush does not fit in the case, it has a secure lid and good work-ability. The travel storage tin has a small handle for pulling the kit from tight packed spaces like a backpack or tote without having to unpack everything else around it. (Galaxy sample was painted on Canson XL 300 gsm/140 lb paper.)
To reduce overall thickness the palette does hinge in a zigzag fashion that I didn't mind. Perfect compact desk set when fully open. The set lays really flat too. It also has a more matte surface finish to reduce glare though it can minimally stain in a way similar to plastics.
When traveling, the inward facing three wells still provides plenty of room for mixing without using the back mixing area. The back mixing area can still be used in the wild just wipe it dry before storing in the travel tin. The storage tin will help prevent paint smudges from the palette getting on your other gear.
Per the manufacturer, the watercolor paint is light fast and non-toxic. Another awesome feature is that the extruded paints stay put in the container with no rattling! MIYA will have pigment information in the very near future, follow their Instagram for the latest news. To purchase your own travel set visit Amazon.com (affiliate link).
